A nice way to start of my first blog is with an acrostic poem written by Caroline Umana and a poem entitled “The Photographer” written by Barbara Bowles. The definition of an acrostic poem is a type of poetry where the first, last or other letters in a line spell out a particular word or phrase. I first met Caroline in 2016 while participating in the Johns Hopkins Odyssey course entitled the “Creative Power: Techniques for Finding the Authentic Artist Within”. When the course came to an end, Caroline, myself, and several others decided to continue working on our creative endeavors and formed a unique group called “Baroque Pearls”. The reasoning behind the name Baroque Pearls is that while each member is irregular and diverse, we are also bold, unique, and beautiful in our own way. We meet every third Wednesday of the month to share our artist endeavors, ideas, challenges, and offer support to each other. The group features creative souls such as a poet, chef, life coach, writer, website designer, and photographer (that’s me!). It was at Baroque Pearls where I had the pleasure of meeting Barbara Bowles. Barbara lives in Baltimore and has written poetry for many years. She recently self-published her first book.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER by Barbara Bowles (2009)
She sees emerging patterns
Light and its absence
Shadows and their surrounding outlines
She observes living colors
Layerings strong or muted
Painterly in their presentation
She hones in on her subject
Awaiting patiently
The fleeting, perfect moment
She trusts her innate instincts
Her growing expertise
Informs her mind and hands
In the twinkling of an eye
With an instantaneous click
She preserves wonder
